Strijp-S site visit
On October 11th, BEAN went on an excursion to Strijp-S in Eindhoven! Thanks to Stam + De Koning Bouw (werkmaatschappij VolkerWessels), we had an exclusive tour of the Lighthouse construction site, the tallest tower in the city, where we enjoyed stunning views from great heights. Afterward, Paul Heijmans from Park Strijp Beheer B.V. guided us on an engaging tour through this vibrant district. We wrapped up the day with a fun social drink!
BEAN Summer BBQ
After last year’s great turnout, BEAN hosted the second edition of our summer barbecue on June 28th. Under the warm summer sun and with Lake Meta as the backdrop, our alumni came together to welcome the season in the best way possible. The evening was filled with delicious food, good drinks, and plenty of engaging conversations. It was a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with old friends and meet some new faces in a relaxed and informal setting. As the sun set over the lake, we wrapped up the evening, already looking forward to next year. A big thank you to all the alumni who joined us – you made it a memorable night. We can’t wait to see you again next summer!
Research Unleashed
On February 29th, BEAN hosted the first edition of Research Unleashed, a mini-symposium aimed at bridging the gap between academic research at the Department of the Built Environment and practical application. During this session, dr. ir. Faas Moonen presented the GEM-Stage, a CO2-neutral state powered by wind, solar, and hydrogen energy. Our second speaker of the night was ir. Pim Labee, who shed light on the complexity that panel data (repeated measures of a single person in a dataset) brings to predicting multi-modal travel mode choice. Our third guest speaker, dr. Dipl.-Ing. Cristina Nan, discussed the integration of algorithm-aided design, aspects of conventional craftsmanship, and digital fabrication in the process of making. We concluded the night with a networking drink where attendees had the opportunity to ask any remaining questions to the speakers. We look back with great enthusiasm and hope to see you at the next edition of Research Unleashed!
BEAN vrijmibo
On November 24th, BEAN hosted a successful inaugural vrijmibo (Friday afternoon drink). The alumni enjoyed the intimate gathering at Skybar!Underground, the present faculty bar located in the basement of the Built Environment faculty building, Vertigo. For alumni, it served as the perfect occasion to reconnect with former study friends. While savoring some tasty snacks and drinks, attendees seized the excellent chance to broaden their networks and make new connections. Additionally, graduate students had the opportunity to get to know BEAN. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended, contributing to a fun evening. Who knows, this evening may pave the way for more vrijmibos in the future.
BEAN BBQ
On the 24th of June BEAN organized an alumni barbecue for the first time. It was the last activity before the summer break. Taking place on the KOE-field, making it the perfect environment to meet with old study friends and connecting to new people while enjoying drinks and freshly roasted food. With more than 45 alumni present, it was a huge success. The weather was perfect and the board was doing its best to prepare all the food as best as possible. Big thanks to the alumni who even helped cleaning the place. We hope that everyone had a fun afternoon and enjoyed the event. Also check out the pictures of the event in the gallery! Maybe, this is the first edition of many, who knows.
Campus tour
On the 27th of January 2023 BEAN organized a campus tour, during which we visited multiple new developments on the TU/e campus and the department of the Built Environment. After an interesting introduction by Maarten Hornikx about the history of the campus and our department, we walked to the wind tunnel where we got a presentation and tour from Stefanie Gillmeier about the ins and outs of the tunnel. Here Ir. Roderik van Doorn joined the group to guide us around the campus and to tell us some more information about newly developed or renovated buildings, like QBit, Gemini, Atlas and Neuron. Afterwards we finished the evening in the SkyBar in Vertigo with some nice food and drinks. We want to thank all the people that were present, and we hope to see you at future activities of BEAN!
